This article shows an overview of some possible Print&Share configurations.

Please note that every environment is different and might have limitations. If you are not sure about a configuration, ask for more details.

  1. Windows desktop (standalone)
  2. Windows Server with RDS/TS
  3. Windows Server farm with RDS/TS
  4. Windows Server installation with Print&Share as shared printer driver
  5. Windows desktop combined with RDS/TS

1. Windows desktop (standalone)

config 1

Configuration:

This is the most default and recommended configuration of Print&Share. Print&Share is installed on each individual computer or laptop and each uses has its own Print&Share.

Remarks:

  • A desktop license is needed per computer.

2. Windows Server with RDS/TS

config 1

Configuration:

This is the most default and recommended server configuration. Print&Share is only installed on the Windows Server. Users log in via Remote Desktop/Terminal Services and work on the server.

Each user will have their own Print&Share on the server.

Remarks:

  • A server license is needed for the server.
  • Print&Share should only be installed on the server.

3. Windows Server farm with RDS/TS

config 1

Configuration:

This server configuration is similar to the single server configuration, the only difference is that you have a server farm to load balance the users.

A master image is shared on the slave servers.

Remarks:

  • You need server licenses with a special server farm option activated, contact us.
  • The server master image with Print&Share should be registered and activated first before distributing to the slaves.

4. Windows Server installation with Print&Share as shared printer driver

config 1

Configuration:

In this configuration the Print&Share is installed on the server and the Ricoh Print&Share printer driver is shared.

Clients do not log in on the server and will not see the Print&Share user interface. They will only be able to print to the shared Print&Share printer.

Remarks:

  • A server license is needed.
  • Print&Share is only installed on the server, not on the clients.
  • Print&Share should have Auto Send&Close configured on each profile.
  • We don't recommend this, as users don't see the Print&Share user interface.

5. Windows desktop combined with RDS/TS

config 1

Configuration:

In this situation the users work on their local PC and also on the server via remote desktop.

They should be able to print to Print&Share from their desktop and from the remote desktop on the server.

Remarks:

  • Print&Share is installed on the clients and not on the server.
  • The Windows Server should have Easy Printing.
  • Local printer resources should be available in the remote session.
